Facts About Buffing

When buffing, various procedures are used. Knowing the correct method is important to obtain the desired finish. Prior to buffing, try to obtain the best finish possible. This could be accomplished by several methods using coated abrasives, vibratoring or tumbling the part etc.

Examples of buffing the easiest and quickest way for the following:

A) Soft Metals - Aluminum, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Zinc Die Cast

• 1st Stage - Cut Down - To remove scratches use airway or stitched spiral buff with tripoli compound
• 2nd Stage - Coloring - Use a soft cotton or flannel buff with color compound
• 3rd Stage - If higher color is desired, use a flannel buff with red rouge

B) For Steel Parts

• 1st Stage - To remove scratches. Use sisal buff with steel cut compound
• 2nd Stage - To remove sisal marks, use airway buff with steel cut compound
• 3rd Stage - Use hard stitched buff or airway with cut color bar or color bar
• 4th Stage - If higher color is needed, use color bar or go to red rouge, depending on the finish desired.
